Today was my first day back to Church & I am amazed at what was said in Mass would confront me 10 minutes later in the grocery store. On my way home I stopped to get a half gallon of milk for my Daughter & some Poinsettas for my Wife, when an opportunity to pay it forward was staring me straight in the face. A gentleman in his mid to late fifties was in front of me in the checkout line, apologizing to the cashier as he was handing him back some of his groceries. After the man had left I asked the cashier, “What was going on with that gentleman?’Cashier responded, “He did not have enough money…” As I looked at the pile of groceries behind the register I said “Put that on my bill !!” The cashier was confused, but without any delay he was scanning the man’s groceries and putting them into three bags. As I left the store desperate to find this man, I realized that I might have just bought all of this for myself, but after 5 minutes of looking in the parking lot I found the man getting into his car.
“Excuse me ….” I said, “you left some groceries at the register..”
Gentleman “Oh….wait…no you did not have to do that!!”
Me: “Yes I did…MERRY CHRISTMAS & GOD BLESS” Gentleman: (with tears in his eyes) “Thank you so much !!!”
Me: (with sunglasses on to hide the watering eyes & shaking his hand) “MERRY CHRISTMAS & GOD BLESS YOU & YOUR FAMILY !!!” As I am walking away across the parking lot I hear……
Gentleman: (shocked …tearful..gratefull) “GOD BLESS YOU >>>>GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY !!!!”
What will you do today to help your fellow man? What will you do to leave this place a little better than it was, when you found it? Will you pay it forward? Will you not expect anything in return, will you do as I did & buy some’s groceries ( Milk, Soup, Rice, Essentials) for a complete stranger that they could not afford the essentials?
